Manufacturer representation
Your licensed agent in Ethiopia
Ethiopian law requires a locally licensed agent to register and distribute your product. LifeCare has held that role for manufacturers in more than 10 countries, and maintains 225+ EFDA registrations on their behalf.
The requirement
You cannot sell into Ethiopia without one
This is the part manufacturers most often discover late. A product cannot be registered, cleared or sold in Ethiopia by a foreign entity acting alone.
- Registration An EFDA product registration must be held through a locally licensed agent. Without one, the dossier cannot be filed.
- Customs Import permits are issued against the registration and the agent's licence. Unregistered product does not clear the port, whatever the invoice says.
- Tenders EPSS and Ministry of Health tenders are bid by locally registered suppliers. Your product competes through your agent's submission.
- Liability The agent carries regulatory responsibility for the product in market, which is precisely why the choice of agent matters.
How it works
From first conversation to first delivery
- 01
Assessment
We review your product list against Ethiopian demand, existing registrations and what EPSS and the private market are actually buying. You get a straight answer on whether there is a market before anyone signs anything.
- 02
Agency agreement
Ethiopian regulation requires a locally licensed agent to hold the registration. We sign a representation agreement that names LifeCare as your agent for the territory.
- 03
EFDA registration
We compile and submit the dossier, manage queries from the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority, and track variations and renewals against their deadlines. We currently maintain more than 225 registrations.
- 04
Import and clearance
Import permits, port and customs clearance, and storage under the conditions your product requires, including cold chain where it applies.
- 05
Distribution
Your product enters a network already in place: 200+ pharmaceutical wholesalers, private hospital groups, retail pharmacies, NGO programmes and EPSS tender submissions.
Why LifeCare
An agent with a delivery record, not just a licence
Plenty of Ethiopian companies hold an import licence. Rather fewer can show four consecutive years of EPSS Top-20 placement and a warehouse that actually moves volume.
- EPSS Top-20 Supplier 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, plus a special award for bulk order execution in February 2025.
- 225+ registrations maintained, with variations and renewals tracked to deadline rather than to expiry.
- 200+ wholesalers already buying, so distribution does not start from zero.
- We manufacture too, which means we understand your production constraints and specifications rather than treating them as somebody else's problem.
